Give Them an Inch

And they’ll take it all

We all know the term, and most likely, have family members or friends who will attempt to take a mile when you compromise on anything. I think it’s time to reword the phrase to “Give them an inch and they’ll take it all” when referring to Progressives. These people have enabling policies, seemingly compassionate, but in reality, enslaving us all to their ideas.

In the mid-eighties I had a conversation with several college students regarding the pending lawsuits against “big tobacco” and the danger in allowing the government to fine tobacco companies for what they have deemed a legal product, voluntarily purchased, and taxed to the benefit of that same government. Income Redistribution

Income Redistribution has been going on since the FDR days. It’s been more commonly known as Social Security.

“What? How does my Social Security account qualify as redistribution?” you say.

Well, let’s take a look at case A.

Mac paid into social security from the age of 19 until retirement at 65. He began paying $1.00 a month, in 1937. Over the years, he worked hard and progressed to management in his profession. And in his first year of retirement, he received in Social Security payments more than he ever paid into the system over 46 years. Someone else paid his funds for his subsequent years. He died at the age of 83. Income redistribution.

The Value of the 5th Amendment

I plead the Fifth. We all know the phrase. Most of us think of the 5th amendment as the right not to incriminate ourselves in court. We see it used on television and indeed, read about it in news reports of court cases. It is the most oft-used provision of the amendment.

Below is the actual text of that amendment, with important words for us personally in bold.

Article [V.]

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
